Launching on 11 May, the fiveweek retail activism project will highlight the plight of the world's oceans and encourage people to eat fish from sustainable sources by showcasing unique collaborations between designers and artists.

Mark Hix will host Hix Oyster amp Fish House, a pop up version of his hugely popular restaurant in Lyme Regis, alongside which a dazzling window has been masterminded by none other than creative genius Stephen Webster, the only jewellery designer to be involved in Project Ocean. Additionally, Stephen Webster has created a limited edition black leather bracelet with silver fish skeleton, exclusively available at Selfridges. It retails at 100 and 25 of the proceeds will go to Project Ocean.

For years I have found inspiration for my personal and professional life from the sea. We live in a house on the edge of the White Cliffs of Dover. My collections, from Jewels Verne to In Deep, have all originated under the sea. Therefore, to contemplate that everything from fish and chips to the starting point of my next jewellery collection is in imminent danger of disappearing altogether, has a profound effect on me. We are delighted to have been asked to take part in Selfridges' Project Ocean. Comments Stephen Webster.

STEPHEN WEBSTER TO LAUNCH FAIRTADE AND FAIRMINED GOLD COLLECTIONS

We are delighted to announce that Garrard and Stephen Webster are among the world's first 20 jewellers to launch Fairtrade and Fairmined Gold.

In January 2011, Stephen Webster, Founder and Creative Director of Stephen Webster Ltd and Creative Director of Garrard travelled to Peru on the trail of Fairtrade gold to experience firsthand the difference that Fairtrade certification will make to small scale and artisanal mining communities, as well as to trace the origin of this precious metal.

Once we get started we intend to quickly grow the volume of business we conduct using Fairtrade Gold. One day I want it to be 100 of the gold we sell. For now, both SW and Garrard brands will be offering engagement and wedding rings made in London using this gold. I thought it made no sense to design a specific collection in order to separate the ethical gold and the normally sourced gold, why not offer the first supplies to couples getting engaged or married as an alternative. Even though the cost to us for such gold is over 10 higher we will be absorbing this premium. We don't want price to be the reason not to choose a more responsible product commented Stephen Webster.

The first Stephen Webster Fairtrade Gold collection will be available in spring 2011 as part of the brand's first Engagement and Wedding Ring collection. The Garrard Fairtrade Gold collection will follow later in 2011.
