Crystal Haze is doublet technique developed and refined by Stephen Webster, whereby two stones are layered and bonded together. The top layer is a heavily faceted natural clear Quartz, acting as a magnifying lens to enhance the colour of the underlying opaque precious stone. ​

The facets on the Quartz allows light to enter at hundreds of different angles, producing a holographic ‘haze’ of colour that moves as the jewellery is worn.

When Stephen Webster initially launched the Crystal Haze collection in the 90’s, the “jewellery establishment baulked" at the idea of it being considered as fine jewellery. Everything changed when Madonna bought one for herself, quickly becoming the must-have accessory and symbol of the independent women who bought her own fine jewellery.

Stephen Webster personally sources rough materials from Tucson, Arizona or Idar-Oberstein. The selected stones are then intricately hand-cut in Germany. Never afraid to experiment, Crystal Haze, incorporates lesser-used materials such as Falcon’s Eye, Hematite, Bull’s Eye and a variety of mesmerising Opalescent stones.

Over the years of continuous experimentation with different gem materials and shapes, Crystal Haze has remained one of the brand's most popular and adored jewellery techniques.

To mark the 25th Anniversary, Crystal Haze has been reimagined as a contemporary collection: CH2, reflecting a modern jewellery wardrobe that captures the versatile spirit of the original design.
