VERTIGO, LOST HORIZON RING paired with THE VERTIGO MARTINI

"Vertigo plays with perspective on a miniature scale, something that has baffled the magic circle for years. Even big jewellery is still small in the scale of things. However, by employing all the technology we could lay our hands on – including everyone’s favourite, 3-D printing – we managed to achieve very acute angles and virtual shadows cast by coloured enamels and baguette-cut gems. In short, Vertigo is a collection of wearable ‘trick of the light’ jewels.
The hero gem of Vertigo, the ‘Two Many Martinis’ ring, is an intriguing lavender/grey Spinel. As is often the case, while foraging for the unexpected at the show for those who know, the Tucson Gem & Mineral show in Arizona, this particular gem spoke to me. I didn’t know it at the time, but it said that Spinels are possibly the most underrated of all precious gems. Thanks to the Crown Jewels and the Tzars, the pedigree of Spinels is without question. Add the fact that they occur naturally in an entire spectrum of colours, and it’s only a matter of time before they hit the big screen."

THE COCKTAIL DRINK, THE VERTIGO MARTINI
INGREDIENTS
1 oz Crystal Head vodka
1 oz lemon juice
A splash of lavender syrup
A lemon (squeeze, to taste)
2–3 oz champagne
METHOD
1. Pour 1 shot of vodka into a martini glass.
2. Add a healthy splash of lavender syrup (preferably down a swizzle spoon).
3. Squeeze in some fresh
lemon juice.
4. Top up with champagne.
